Description:
Analysis and evaluation based on existing maintenance technology
Pavement structure of semi-rigid base course, with characteristics of high strength and load diffusion capacity, is currently widely used on national highway, provincial and national main roads. Typical damages from this type of pavement are rutting, crack and water damage. Against those damages, maintenance methods are repaving after milling, micro-surfacing and hot in-place recycling, etc.
1. Milling&repaving
Applicable to all kinds of damage, a most common maintenance mode.
Advantage: common and completely treated.
Disadvantages: huge construction quantities, high cost, long construction period, traffic organization problem to high traffic expressway and big resource losses, which don’t meet the development concept of “Green, Low-carbon, Environmental Friendly”.
2. Micro-surfacing
A kind of preventative maintenance technology and suitable for slight damages on pavement surface, normally applied to performance recovery of pavement surface.
Advantage: fast and economic
Disadvantages: only suitable to preventative maintenance at early stage of pavement surface, low durability, big traffic noise, and its structure depth and anti-slide performance would decrease after certain period, difficult to control construction quality, leading to early-stage stripping, which is totally of low cost performance.
